Our Achievements
Protecting the Mising homeland
Between 2007 and 2011, TMPK led one of the most significant environmental movements in the region against the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project. The project threatened to submerge large tracts of Mising-inhabited land and posed severe risks of erosion, flash floods and displacement of riverside communities.
TMPK organised highway blockades on NH-52, mass demonstrations, and public meetings, and submitted detailed memoranda to the Government of India and the Government of Assam highlighting the environmental devastation and displacement risks to Mising villages along the Subansiri river.
The movement raised national awareness about the ecological fragility of the lower Subansiri basin and the rights of indigenous communities affected by large infrastructure projects. It also set a precedent for community-led environmental advocacy in the region.
