Who We Are

Takam Mising Porin Kébang (TMPK) — the All Mising Students' Union — is the apex student organisation of the Mising (Miri) community, one of Assam's largest Scheduled Tribes. Founded on 16 October 1971 at Jonai Higher Secondary School in present-day Dhemaji district, TMPK unified previously fragmented Mising student groups into a single, powerful representative body.

The founding President was Medini Mohan Doley and the first General Secretary was Sonadhar Patir. The constitution was formally adopted on 30 October 1972. TMPK is the student wing of the Mising Bane Kebang (MBK), the apex socio-cultural body of the Mising people.

Today, TMPK operates through a network of district and unit committees across all Mising-inhabited areas of Assam, with its central office located at Abotani Lotta, Gogamukh, Dhemaji, Assam (PIN 787034).

Mission & Objectives

TMPK is dedicated to the holistic advancement of the Mising community. Our core objectives as enshrined in the constitution are:

  • Educational Advancement — Promote higher education, award scholarships, and conduct merit felicitation programmes for Mising students.
  • Cultural Preservation — Protect and promote Mising language (Mising Agom), traditional festivals (Ali-Aye-Ligang, Po:rag), oral history, and the Roman script developed by Mising Agom Kebang.
  • Relief & Welfare — Organise flood relief camps, distribute essential supplies, and coordinate disaster response for affected Mising communities across the Brahmaputra valley.
  • Political Advocacy — Campaign for the inclusion of the Mising Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution for full tribal autonomy, and advocate for land rights, citizenship documentation, and social justice.
  • Youth Empowerment — Foster leadership, organise sports and cultural events, and build a network of young Mising professionals and community leaders.
Governance

Organisational Structure

A democratic four-tier committee system, with each level reporting to the next.

🏛️

Central Committee

The apex decision-making body comprising elected office bearers — President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, and secretaries. A 101-member Central Committee was formed at the 17th Triennial General Conference in July 2026.

📋

District Committees

Each Mising-inhabited district operates a district committee elected by unit committee representatives. They implement central directives and coordinate regional activities across Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Golaghat, and Biswanath.

📌

Regional Committees

Intermediate tier connecting district committees with unit-level activities. Ensures coordination across clusters of committees within a district or across neighbouring districts.

🌱

Unit Committees

The grassroots foundation of TMPK. Unit committees operate at the village, town, and college level — engaging Mising youth directly, organising local activities, recruiting members, and serving as the first point of contact for the community.

All tiers are democratically elected. Elections are supervised by an independent TMPK Election Commission to ensure free and fair conduct.

Approximately 16,000 Misings also reside in Arunachal Pradesh (East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, and Lohit districts).
