The Takam Mising Porin Kebang has extended support to the Assam government's proposal to reduce the eco-sensitive zone around Kaziranga National Park, while demanding that the limit be brought down to zero distance. Addressing a press conference at Mising Jironi Chora in Bokakhat, TMPK leaders backed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's proposal to shrink the existing 10-km zone to one kilometre, but said the long-standing demand of residents of Bokakhat, Kaliabor and adjoining areas should be fully honoured. The organisation recalled that cases were registered in 2019 against leaders of several student bodies over protests against the restrictions, and criticised the Congress for opposing the government's stand. TMPK said a favourable decision, currently pending before the Supreme Court, would bring relief to people living around the national park. (Based on a report by Pratidin Time.)
